Gold in Mono County, California

Lode gold and silver mines and prospects can be found in many parts of Mono County, from the Sweetwater Mountains on the north to the White Mountains on the south, and at elevations ranging from 5,000 to 12,000 feet. Mining activity on the rugged east flank of the Sierra Nevada is now severely restricted, especially in resort areas and where lands adjoin Yosemite National Park.DOI Computers Back Online
You may have noticed that the Department of Interior’s (DOI) computers were disconnected for about 10 days during mid-March. The disconnected Internet service prevented miners and prospectors from accessing numerous online files, including all Bureau of Land Management websites and mining claim systems.
